Nestled in the backdrop of the Waianae mountain range and Kolekole pass is the home of the United States Army’s 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks.
The Sounds of Freedom (SOF) is for Military running in formation with their unit, consisting of service men and women from all branches of service. The SOF is not a chip timed race but a march with all branches in their units calls out cadence, running in formation in PT gear, as the “Sounds of Freedom!”
SOF may register for the GAR through their unit SOF coordinator as a group. SOF is not to register with the “GAR Official Entry Form” as this form is for the general public, and service men and women not running in formation. Family members may not register under the SOF, but may register with the general public on the “Official Entry Form”. Entry into the SOF is complimentary. A commemorative SOF Finisher T-shirt can be purchased separately for $15 via POC instructions.
Your unit SOF coordinator will pick up your run numbers prior to race day, and issue them out on the bus race morning. DO NOT GO TO THE GAR PACKET PICK-UP TO PICK UP YOUR RACE NUMBER! You may only take the military buses from your assigned base for SOF. The buses at the stadium are for the general public and will not take you to the SOF start line. The SOF buses are for SOF participants only.
The SOF ready line is on Ala Moana Blvd in downtown Honolulu. The finish line is just to the left of the GAR finish lien inside Aloha Stadium. You will receive food and beverage at the finish line Your buses back to your duty stations will be waiting for you. Please line up and wait for your unit POC before you load onto the buses.
